the connection failed correct the database connection information and test the connection again

the connection failed correct the database connection information and test the connection again

These are the details which should be available to successfully connect with the database during the Informatica Power Center installation.

Database Type : Choose your Repository database (Oracle/SQL Server/Sybase)

Database user ID : Database user ID to connect database.

Username should have DBA access. This is to create a schema and load all the repository tables in the further installation steps.

Create a separate user instead of using the available local system users like sys or scott or system. This is to separate the Repository tables and avoid any manual mistakes which will lead to the corruption of the metadata tables.

User Password  : Password

Schema Name : If Schema name is not provided default schema will be used.

Database Address and Port : Machine on which database in installed and default port number.

If Informatica is being installed in the same machine where oracle is installed, then you can use the machine name or the host name as ‘localhost’.

If the database is on some other machine then you need to get the machine’s alias name or the network name and use it where ever applicable.

The default port number for Oracle is always 1521

The default port number for SQL server is always 1433

*The ports numbers will change in most of the real time implementations and you need to get those details from the Informatica Administrators or the Oracle DBAs

Database Service Name :  Database Name.

If you have used the default ‘SID’ or ‘service name’ it would be ‘orcl’ or ‘ORCL’ else the name which you have used during the installation of Oracle database.

Troubleshooting steps for this error:

  • Verify that the bit version of the database and Informatica are the same. If you have downloaded 64 bit version of Informatica and 32 bit of Oracle is installed on the machine. It would not work. Bot the bit versions should be the same.
  • Verify the database services are running.
  • Verify if you are able to connect to the database with the same details.
  • Verify that database host, port and servicenames provided in the installation screen are correct.
  • Check if the Service name or SID in configured properly in the tnsnames entry. (In the tnsnames.ora)

In most of the cases, if you are able to perform these the issue will be resolved.

If you still have issues, stop all the other application services except that of Oracle and try again.

As a final step, restart the PC, verify the services are running, connect to the database with the credentials and then start the installation.
